Experiencing the music of Grieg is like taking a journey through Norway’s breathtaking and varied landscapes. Often evoking the raw beauty of nature – from the majestic fjords to the craggy mountains and picturesque villages – there’s a sense of enchantment in his music.
Filled with Norwegian folk melodies, his Piano Concerto weaves lyricism and virtuosity, creating a dramatic and captivating work that opens with one of the most famous flourishes in classical music. Southbank Sinfonia is joined by Italian pianist Alessio Bax, one of ‘the most remarkable young pianists now before the public’ (Gramophone).
