At Southbank Sinfonia we believe in engaging fully with communities wherever we travel, adding value and increasing accessibility however we can. We are constantly looking for new ways in which to enrich the lives of the young people in communities in which we perform. Some examples include:
The orchestra enjoys a long-standing relationship with the people of Guernsey and chamber ensembles travel each year to the island not only to perform, but also to present workshops in schools and for the local music service where they also present masterclasses, teach promising individuals, and play a guiding role in rehearsals.
During the orchestra’s annual residency near Leiston and Aldeburgh on the Suffolk coast, we welcome local school children to meet the orchestra, participate in lively musical workshops and attend a free schools concert exploring instruments and great repertoire.
The orchestra’s residency at the Anghiari Festival in Tuscany each summer now includes a broadening number of leadership projects that enthuse and motivate local young people. To date these include side-by-side workshops for local teenagers, and the chance to perform with the orchestra in a special concert at the town’s primary school.
