This season, the Philharmonia explores the extraordinary music of Igor Stravinsky in concerts from May to September. We are thrilled to join the festival with our own tribute to one of modern music’s most charismatic icons.
It was inevitable that a shooting star like Stravinsky would dazzle New York. He called his Scènes de ballet ‘a portrait of Broadway’ and Jeu de cartes evokes a city glistening with vice, wittily dealt in three hands. In contrast, Two Poems show a calmer, darker and more introspective side to Stravinsky’s personality, as he wrote for his baritone brother Gury.
