RUSH HOUR #10: JOURNEYS
ST JOHN’S WATERLOO
Mendelssohn Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage
Beethoven Symphony No.6 ‘Pastoral’
Ben Gernon conductor
Escape the bustle of London and journey with us to destinations anew. In Mendelssohn’s overture the perils of a calm sea sap the momentum of a tall ship until, with the coming of the wind, fervent activity resumes. Beethoven, meanwhile, shares his love of the countryside in his Sixth Symphony. A musical landscape is painted complete with babbling brook, drunken locals at the village pub, some extreme weather and the horn calls of shepherds drifting across the valley.
We are delighted to welcome back Ben Gernon, winner of the prestigious Nestlé and Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Award in 2013 and who has since worked with orchestras globally including the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the London Symphony Orchestra.
