National Theatre: Amadeus

18 March 2017 | 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Amadeus by Peter Shaffer

Vienna: the music capital of the world.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, a rowdy young prodigy, arrives determined to make a splash.

Awestruck by his genius, Court Composer Antonio Salieri has the power to promote his talent or destroy it.

Seized by obsessive jealousy he begins a war with Mozart, with music and, ultimately, with God.

Peter Shaffer’s iconic play premiered at the National Theatre in 1979, winning multiple Olivier and Tony awards before being adapted into an Academy award-winning film. In this new production, directed by Michael Longhurst and starring Lucian Msamati as Salieri, Southbank Sinfonia provides live orchestral accompaniment.

Booking for performances until March 2017 is now open.

There is very limited availability for performances throughout the run. However, we recommend you visit the National Theatre website regularly, or call the box office, as previously held seats or returned tickets may become available. £20 Friday Rush tickets will be available online at 1pm on the Friday of the week preceding this performance. £15 Day Tickets will be available in person from the Box Office from 9.30am on the day of the performance (2 tickets per customer and seats may offer a Restricted View).
