Rules are there to be broken. Since 2004, Nonclassical has been redefining classical music in places you wouldn’t expect: across London – and further afield – pubs, clubs, galleries and other surprise locations have been transformed by brave new musical thinking and genre-defying collaborations.
Here we team up with Nonclassical founder Gabriel Prokofiev to give the UK premiere of his latest concerto, a cutting-edge dialogue between trumpet, percussion and turntables with four-time world DJ champion Mr Switch on the decks.
The evening will also feature a sample of Gabriel’s original Concerto for Turntables and Orchestra, the groundbreaking hip-hop/classical cross-over that now forms part of the BBC’s Ten Pieces, alongside other works that look at mechanical music making and the ‘rise of machines’. After the main performance, the evening continues with DJ sets.
