After sold-out debut concerts in 2014, Southbank Sinfonia returns to Paris’ iconic Notre-Dame with music that spans the Channel.
Combining exquisite orchestral writing and the power of a full chorus, Poulenc’s Gloria blends joyful passages with moments of reflection, while Gounod’s St Cecilia Mass was described by Saint-Saëns as being like the dazzling dawn light. Howells wrote for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, while Vaughan Williams’ luscious variations for harp and string orchestra reshapes a traditional English folk melody.
