Royal Opera House

Our extensive partnership sees our musicians meeting their counterparts in the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, collaborating in a side-by-side project involving operatic repertoire aimed at developing the skills needed to play as a pit orchestra. The project then culminates in a performance at the Linbury Theatre. The orchestras also play together in mainstage education projects.

Another key element of the partnership sees the Royal Opera House musicians giving an audition masterclass and subsequent mock auditions for Southbank Sinfonia players, providing invaluable experience and feedback for players.

Southbank Sinfonia also gives several chamber concerts in the venue’s popular Crush Room recital series and collaborates with the Jette Parker Young Artists on select concerts and their annual operatic double bill in the Linbury Theatre.

“We are proud to have been working with Southbank Sinfonia since its inception in 2002. We are looking to shape future generations of orchestral musicians through performance and Side-by-Side projects at the Royal Opera House.”
