Royal Opera House

An extensive partnership with the Royal Opera House sees Southbank Sinfonia’s members gain experience in all areas of opera and ballet music.

Our musicians meet their counterparts in the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House and collaborate in a side-by-side project featuring operatic and ballet repertoire. Under the baton of Royal Opera and Royal Ballet music staff, the project cultivates the skills needed to play in a pit orchestra and culminates in a performance at the Linbury Theatre.

Later in the year, Southbank Sinfonia collaborates with the Jette Parker Young Artists in a concert and fully-staged opera at Covent Garden, putting the skills developed during the partnership into practice.

Royal Opera musicians also give an audition masterclass to Southbank Sinfonia’s players, ahead of mock auditions that provide invaluable experience and feedback for players.
