Academy of St Martin in the Fields

A longstanding partnership sees musicians from the internationally-renowned chamber orchestra spend an immersive week at our base, mentoring and directing our players in a conductorless project. With a focus on leadership among the players themselves, the coaching helps to cultivate a strong, alert ensemble dynamic which the musicians can bring to all their subsequent activities.

To hear first-hand what it’s like to perform in a conductor-less orchestra alongside the Academy’s players, read Southbank Sinfonia violinist Yena Choi’s blog here.

Further information:

“There is no need to worry about the future of music in this country as I am sure it will flourish in the hands of the players from Southbank Sinfonia. I can only look on with jealousy that twenty years ago when I entered the profession there were no orchestras such as this one.”
Michael Murray, Horn, Academy of St Martin in the Fields.
