David was born in Valencia, Spain and studied for his bachelor’s degree at Conservatori Superior de Musica in Castelló. He continued his studies with a postgraduate degree at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, completing the Orchestral Artistry course with teachers including David Corkhill, Tony Bedewi and Adrian Spillett.

David has collaborated with professional orchestras in Spain, such as the Valencia Chamber Orchestra and the Castellon Lyric Orchestra, and with classical and contemporary orchestras in the UK, including the Britten-Pears Orchestra and the Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra. He has played with several professional orchestras in Europe, performing concerts in Spain, Netherlands, UK, USA and elsewhere, and has recently been awarded a trial for Principal Percussion and Timpani with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.

Alongside orchestral playing, David is also a founding member of New Art Sound Duo, a contemporary bass clarinet and percussion duo performing across Europe, and is a jazz vibraphone enthusiast. David is a member of Enjazz, a jazz quartet in Spain, and always tries to play some jazz when he has the chance.

Q&A

What do you love about classical music?
Everything. I think that classical music is one of the most beautiful kinds of music, and hard to compose. There are incredible masterpieces that I think can be compared with a big monument or a good painting.

What’s on your playlist right now?
There is a lot of Latin Jazz (Michel Camilo, Paquito d’Rivera, Dave Samuels), some Dixieland (1920s), Beethoven’s Symphony No.7 and the last Arctic Monkeys album. I know it is a crazy mix.

Tell us something about yourself that might surprise us.
I love cooking. I always try to cook when I have time, finding new recipes and trying to astonish my flatmates. The bad thing is that I spend two hours cooking a meal and they spend five minutes eating it…
