
Benjamin comes from a musical family and began playing the violin at an early age. He also studied singing and in 1994 was awarded a place as a chorister at St John’s College, Cambridge. He toured Japan, South Africa and Europe with the college choir, as Deputy Head Chorister.
In 2000 Benjamin won a place at Chetham’s School of Music studying violin with Jan Repko. Here, Ben performed in many of the Symphony Orchestra concerts under Mark Elder, Stephen Threlfall, Jac van Steen and Benjamin Zander.
In 2002 Benjamin began studying the violin/viola with Doctor Hugh Maguire. During this time he attended the Pro-Corda chamber music courses and was coached by The Wihan Quartet, The Israel Trio, Ioan Davies and Philip Dukes.
As a chamber musician Benjamin regularly performs with his quartet, The Ealing String Quartet, and has received coaching from Lewis Kaplan, Simon Rowland-Jones, members of the Chillingrian Quartet and attended the London String Quartet Foundation, Quartet Symposia.
In 2004 Benjamin won a scholarship to the Royal College of Music where he studied with Ivo-Jan van der Werff and Jonathan Barritt. Benjamin also undertook a Postgraduate degree at the college, where he studied jointly with Simon Rowland-Jones and Lawrence Power. Benjamin has participated in masterclasses with Lawrence Power, Ian Jewel and Stephen Tees.
In January 2009 Benjamin was a prize winner in the Kenneth Page viola competition.
In his spare time, Benjamin pursues his interest in cars and cycling.
