Rosemary Toll

Rosemary was an ABRSM scholar at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, where she gained her Mmus degree. During her time at the RNCM she won the Wray Percussion Prize three times and performed as a concerto soloist with Southern Sinfonia.

Prior to this she attended the Purcell School of Music, where she became an SPNM shortlisted composer and winner of the first ‘ComposeYourself’ competition. Her piece was performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, recorded by members of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and subsequently broadcast on Classic FM and BBC Radio 4.

In 2005, Rosemary undertook an ERASMUS exchange to the Paris Conservatoire and was also invited to play in the ‘Young Percussionists of Europe Ensemble’ as part of the ‘Perkumania’ Festival in 2005, 2007 and 2008.

During her postgraduate year she was a concerto finalist in the college’s competition playing Richard Rodney Bennett’s Percussion Concerto, and played in a Masterclass for Dame Evelyn Glennie. Rosemary is enthusiastic about all styles of music and, in addition to her Classical music interests, plays in two salsa bands and a duo with former SbS member, oboist Liesbeth Allart. She also works as a teacher and is currently Percussion Tutor at Lancaster University. She is also a keen Baroque Timpanist and in 2009 was a participant in the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment Experience Scheme and a member of the European Union Baroque Orchestra.
