Nicholas Ireson

Nicholas read music at Christ Church, Oxford before taking up a place on the postgraduate course at the Royal Academy of Music. At the academy he was generously supported by the Musicians Benevolent Fund and the Worshipful Company of Drapers.

Alongside his Southbank Sinfonia activities Nicholas maintains an active freelance career, working with the London Sinfonietta and recording at Abbey Road as well as a trial with English National Opera. He is also a keen chamber musician. He plays with the St James Quintet with whom he won both the Royal Overseas League Ensemble Prize and the Philharmonia Orchestra/Martin Musical Scholarship in 2009 as well as being Leverhulme Chamber Music Fellows at the Royal Academy of Music.

Away from the horn, Nicholas enjoys small London pubs, his friend Charlie’s cooking, and reading non-fiction.
