Award winning Irish violinist Maria Ryan is currently based in Cologne, where she travels to perform as both a soloist and chamber musician. She has appeared as a soloist with various orchestras performing concertos by Mozart, Bach, and Locatelli, notably in Norway and in Ireland with the Kilkenny Youth Orchestra. Most recently, she has performed Haydn’s Sinfonia Concertante in Limerick.
Maria has performed extensively as a chamber musician, including performances of the Brahms Sextet, Mendelssohn Octet, and the Mozart Clarinet Quinet and Oboe Quartet. Maria also works in Duo partnerships performing works from Bach to Stravinsky and enjoyed a successful concert tour in Ireland in September 2009 with pianist Santa Ignace.
She recently graduated with First Class Honours from the Hochschule für Musik Köln. Prior to this, Maria graduated with a First Class M.A. in Performance from the Cork School of Music. She has been fortunate to study under such distinguished and renowned teachers as Emilian Piedicuta, Ruxandra Petcu-Colan, Geraldine O’ Grady and Maeve Broderick.
Maria has worked with the Irish Chamber Orchestra, Irish Film Orchestra, RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, Wexford Opera Festival Orchestra, Opera2005, and the Düsseldorf Sinfoniker, and was the 2008 recipient of the RDS Music Bursary. She is grateful to the Arts Council of Ireland for supporting her performance studies.
