Lorna was born in High Barnet, North London. She studied Music at the University of Manchester where she was a McMyn Scholar and graduated with a B Mus (Hons) degree in July 2006. During her 3 years in Manchester, Lorna studied with David Chatwin at the Royal Northern College of Music. She performed Strauss’s Duett-Concertino for Bassoon and Clarinet with the Manchester University Symphony Orchestra in October 2005, and returned to Manchester in January 2008 to première a new version of John Casken’s Blue Medusa for solo bassoon, clarinet, horn and string quartet.
In September 2006 Lorna started a two-year Postgradute Diploma course at the Royal Academy of Music in London. At the Academy she studied the bassoon with John Orford and Gareth Newman, and the contra-bassoon with David Chatterton. Lorna received awards for study at the Academy from the Countess of Munster Musical Trust and the Craxton Memorial Fund. In June 2007 Lorna won the Florence Woodbridge Bassoon Prize at the Academy performing André Previn’s Bassoon Sonata.
Lorna’s solo appearances include Elizabeth Maconchy’s Concerto for Bassoon & String Orchestra with the Royal Academy of Music String Orchestra, and Haydn’s Sinfonia Concertante with the St. Cecilia Orchestra in Ripon. Lorna has also performed Mozart’s Bassoon Concerto with the St. Cecilia Orchestra. Since graduating from the Academy in June 2008 Lorna has been based in London and has been busy free-lancing in both orchestral and chamber music contexts.
