Daniel Bull

Daniel began playing the cello aged 7 with Susannah Roberts. At the age of 11 he received a double music scholarship to further his musical education at Wisbech Grammar School and at the age of 15 he passed Grade 8 ABRSM with distinction on both ‘cello and piano. In 2001 he received a place to study the ‘cello at the Royal Northern College of Music with Eduardo Vassallo.

Daniel takes a very keen interest in contemporary music and in March 2007 he performed ‘Mania’ for solo cello and orchestra by Esa-Pekka Salonen as part of the RNCM’s Spotlight Series. In 2007 he received a scholarship to begin a Masters in Advanced Performance at the Royal College of Music in London with Melissa Phelps and recently graduated with Distinction. Daniel has participated in masterclasses with Moray Welsh, Hannah Roberts, Alice Neary and Melissa Phelps. He is a keen chamber musician and received coaching from the late Dr Chris Rowland, Alasdair Tait, the Chillingirian and Endellion Quartets.

In 2009 he performed as part of a cello octet in a concert for Bernard Greenhouse and at the King’s Place Concert Hall in London. Daniel has a wide range of interests from fishing to cooking (occasionally what he’s caught!) and is currently building a boat with his brother to be finished in the summer of 2010.
